This top 10 will focus on cover songs that we generally enjoy. They aren't necessarily the best cover songs, or our favorite songs that have been covered. We have also decided to overlook some of the cover songs that are extremely well known around the music world (Cash's cover of Hurt comes to mind). Finally, we've included the music video for the cover song that made it to #1. So, without further ado...
10. Joss Stone - Fell in Love With a Boy
Original: The White Stripes
GIRL!: A great example of taking a song and playing it in a completely different style that makes it your own.
Listen
9. Matt Nathanson - Laid
Original: James
BOY!: A well done cover of a great song that not enough people know about.
Listen
8. Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
Original: Oasis
BOY!: Adams didn't try to do anything too fancy with this cover, but I think it sounds a little more intimate than the original.
Listen
7. Vampire Weekend - Exit Music (For a Film)
Original: Radiohead
GIRL!: Covering a song by Radiohead is a risk, but I think Vampire Weekend gave it an upbeat twist.
Listen
6. Stars - This Charming Man
Original: The Smiths
GIRL!: The song is so soft, and then it kicks in with that classic Smiths guitar – a perfect and unexpected combination.
Listen
5. Elliott Smith - Thirteen
Original: Big Star
GIRL!: I love Elliott Smith, and there's something about the vulnerability and innocence of this song that works flawlessly.
Listen
4. Matt Pond PA - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea
Original: Neutral Milk Hotel
BOY!: Don't get me wrong, I love Neutral Milk Hotel's original. However, I've always been a fan of Matt Pond PA, and thought that their version just sounded a bit cleaner.
Listen
3. Mat Weddle - Hey Ya
Original: Outkast
GIRL!: I love how he takes this very popular song and plays it in a way people would never expect. It makes me look at the song in a whole new way, and that's what a cover is all about.
Listen
2. Spoon - Don't You Evah
Original: The Natural History
BOY!: When I first heard this song, I didn't even know it was a cover. After some digging around, I came across The Natural History and loved their version. However, I still prefer Spoon's crazy, crazy cover.
Listen
1. Gipsy Kings - Hotel California
Original: The Eagles
GIRL!: A classic cover – I think this one speaks for itself.
